Temporary isn’t a short term job description for most temp careers. In recent years, unemployment has increased, the economy is shifting & turmoil has risen in the unemployment line. In a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune, 48-year-old Shari Schmidt is a happily temporarily employed at a marketing agency. Some benefits described range from higher pay, controlled hours (less than 40), and flexible working hours.
Schmidt states, “I wanted to maintain some workforce experience and continue my career, but also have a little more control over it,” she said. “I’m working for a large firm and their employees work 60 hours a week. But they’ll say to me, ‘Don’t work more than 40 hours a week. We’re not paying for it.'”
The state of temporary staffing has greatly increased over the past few years. Recent stats from the Department of Labor exhibited that the Temp labor workforce is at the highest level in 5 years. Currently about  21% of employers asked plan to add more temporary staff in the 4Q of 2012. In comparison, last year only 9% of employers surveyed were planning to increase temp staffing position.
